Summer Internships

Many of our undergraduates in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering participate in summer internships offered by companies all over the world. Typically, an undergraduate student will participate in at least one (and sometimes more) internship. The department assists students with internship searches, resume preparation, interview skills and negotiation techniques.

Companies begin to contact the department with internship (and entry level) positions in early September and often schedule visits to meet with our student group (The Quarterdeck Society) and conduct interviews. These visits and interviews usually last from September through February every academic year. To schedule a visit to the department for internship or entry level positions, please contact our undergraduate office for details.

During the summer of 2013, 75 of our students were employed as interns or research assistants. Many of these summer positions can lead to full time employment at a later time. Students conducting employment searches are also encouraged to visit the Engineering Career Resource Center.
